We had to wait about fifteen minutes for the stores to open. Here is the fam hanging out.
We found a hammock out behind Native Foods. The kids had never been in one before, to my knowledge. It freaked Ramsey out.
We weren't super hungry but we couldn't pass up trying out Native Foods. I have the cookbook but haven't tried anything from it yet.
We got an order of nachos to split. They were really great. The recipe for their 'cheese' is in the cookbook. I'm going to be using that recipe.
And, of course, dessert. We got a key lime parfait and a peanut butter parfait. I ordered the key lime but the peanut butter really was better. There was no tofu taste but these were super light and creamy. I have no idea how they did it.
After we finished eating we continued on our drive. We took the 405 to the 101 and then onto Solvang. While we were on the 101 I saw some dolphins in the ocean! I'm not sure I've ever seen any in the wild. The kids were super disappointed that they missed it.
For the most part the kids didn't do to terrible in the car. We made it about 60-90 minutes away from The Camp before they got rowdy. It took me another 30-60 minutes to remember the laptop and throw on a movie.
Here's the kids at the Hans Christian Anderson Museum. It was totally exciting for the kids to see a bunch of old books. Can you read the sarcasm? It was free and on top of a cool bookstore we were in.

Ah, and here is Ramsey right before she started screaming at the top of her lungs. She was super dirty and I HAD to wash her hair. Turns out there is only a shower and no tub. Ramsey does not like the shower. So, I told her that I was going to wash her hair in the sink. I got her hair wait and she was totally freaking out. Once the shampoo was in and we were committed to finishing she started screaming. Finally I had to pull her in the shower dressed to rinse her off. I'm afraid the neighbors might have thought we were killing her. I'm pretty sure there is still shampoo in her hair.
That's all for day 1 of our trip. We've got about 5 hours in the car tomorrow before we'll make it to San Francisco.

athena loves that hammock! we played in it too last time we were there. And funny, I saw dolphins in the "wild" for the first time on a drive up near santa barbara. weird. i hope you continue to have a lot of good times, with minimal screaming.
I had to tag you.
The 101 is such a beautiful drive. Hopefully the rest of your trip will continue to go well. How far are you going?
Sounds like you're enjoying yourselves! That Native Foods sure does dish up some yummy-looking grub!
